On Saturday, April 19th, 2014, ChamberLab, Tucson’s alt-classical concert series, roared into the historic Fox Theatre with a freshly composed, all-original soundtrack to Buster Keaton’s classic silent film, The General, performed live on stage by a full chamber orchestra while the movie screened.
ChamberLab composers Chris Black, Dante Rosano, Marco Rosano, and Tony Rosano composed new music for strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, and at least one piano, bringing the excitement of Buster Keaton’s most well-known and heart-pounding film to life. There were train chases. There was cannon fire. There was a bridge collapse. The North and the South grappled for the destiny of the country. ChamberLab was there, with full artillery.
The music was performed by the composers, plus Ben Nisbet & Samantha Bounkeua, violins; Michael Simmons, cello; Cassandra Bendickson, bassoon; Jessica Campbell, contrabassoon; Benjamin DeGain, drums; Dallas Thomas, percussion and foley.
